Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Michael Noonan

Question:

213 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Health and Children when replies will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick concerning his entitlement to a health board pension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21596/00]

The person named retired on grounds of permanent infirmity from a position in St. John's Hospital, Limerick, on 30 September 1994. He received a retirement lump sum and a pension which is continuing, in respect of his membership of the voluntary hospitals superannuation scheme.

There is no provision under the scheme for payment of a lump sum into the scheme by a member at retirement to increase lump sum and pension.

The person concerned recently sought the advice of the Department relating to the possibility of amending his pension entitlements. This matter is being investigated with the Department of Finance and a detailed response will issue to him at an early date.
