Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbour Funding.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

255 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if funding will be provided under the piers and harbours moneys for a pier (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24303/00]

The pier in question is owned by Donegal County Council and its repair and maintenance is the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.

I have recently received a request from Donegal County Council for grant aid in respect of works, costing £600,000, to construct a sheet pile wall outside the existing pier face. This request for funding is being considered in the context of the overall development requirements at harbours generally.

Funding of £41,250 was provided to Donegal County Council by my Department in 1998 for works at the location in question. A proposal for further works has recently been received from the local authority and is being considered for funding in the context of the overall development requirements at fishery harbours generally.
