Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

132 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the re-establishment of an advisory committee on deaf education; when he will appoint the members of the committee; and the number of deaf people who will be included. [26525/00]

It is my intention to establish a representative advisory committee to offer guidance to my Department on the range of key issues relating to the future education of deaf children.

Final decisions regarding the precise terms of reference and membership of the proposed advisory committee have not yet been taken my Department. The committee will be representative of the various interests involved in the area of educational provision for the deaf including members of the deaf community.
