Vol. 526 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

342 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in providing a new education centre for Donegal town which was first promised in December 1996; when he expects work to commence; if a specific site has yet been chosen; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26867/00]

My Department proposes to provide a new purpose built education centre in Donegal Town. I am aware that a number of sites have been examined in the past, however, each site examined presented its own problems. Currently, with the help of the local personnel in the existing education centre in Donegal town a site has been identified. Officials of my Department will examine the site and meet with the vendor. Should all requirements be found to be in order the matter will be progressed further with a view to providing the long awaited facilities.
