Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Jim Higgins

Question:

289 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will eliminate the disparity between the grants available for individual houses which are members of group water schemes and houses which have to install their own private supply from a private well or source. [28055/00]

The average value of the 3,058 grants paid so far this year for the provision or improvement of individual water supplies amounted to £1,155, compared to the maximum available grant of £1,600. On that basis I am satisfied that the current level of assistance is adequate to meet the objectives of the grants scheme. I do not, therefore, have any proposals at present to increase the amount of the grant.
