The work in connection with Bray coastal protection scheme is being carried out in three phases. Phase 1 consisted of the construction of a rock groyne and a rock breakwater and was completed in July 1999. Phase 2 – beach nourishment – consisted of placing sand, gravel and shingle on the eroded beach in front of Bray promenade. This phase has just been completed.
Phase 3 consists of the strengthening of the outer end of Bray south pier using steel sheet piles. A contract for this work was awarded in August 1999. This work was suspended in April 2000 when the contractor experienced difficulties with his barge and it remains to be completed. It is planned to restart this work in spring 2001 and complete it in summer 2001.
The work carried out to date is as agreed with Bray Urban District Council.
