Vol. 530 No. 5

Written Answers. - Probation and Welfare Service.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

156 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his Department's estimates of the shortages in personnel in respect of probation and welfare officers for residential centres for children; and the steps he has taken to address these shortages. [4411/01]

The number of probation and welfare service personnel assigned to residential centres for children is five – one senior probation and welfare officer and four probation and welfare officers. These officers are assigned to the following centres: Finglas children centre, Oberstown House and Trinity House which are all based in Dublin and to St. Joseph's School in Clonmel, County Tipperary.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that there are no shortages of probation and welfare service personnel in residential centres for children.
