Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Agencies.

Enda Kenny

Question:

143 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the name, remit, budget and responsibility, including its headquarters and staff, of any organisation or agency under the aegis of her Department involved in any type of development in the BMW region; the monitoring process involved by her Department in respect of such development; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9796/01]

To a greater or lesser extent, the following State companies, under the aegis of my Department, are involved in development in the BMW region: Electricity Supply Board; Bord na Mona; Aer Rianta; Bord Gáis Éireann; Córas Iompair Éireann and Irish Energy Centre. My Department has overall responsibility for the public transport, regional airports, energy and communications measures in the national development plan, NDP.

However, while the individual projects are being implemented by agencies and companies in the relevant sectors, staff of my Department are involved in overseeing or assisting the implementation of these projects. Senior officials of my Department participate in the formal monitoring committees set up to oversee development under the NDP. These committees are chaired by either the Department of Finance or the Department of the Environment and Local Government.
