Question:112 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the groups which it is hoped will be represented on the forum for animal welfare. [10548/01]

A decision has not been taken in relation to the groups in question. Further to my reply to Question No. 62 on 29 March, I intend to resume the arrangements for the establishment of the forum at the first opportunity, subject to the exigencies of the foot and mouth disease crisis. The groups appropriate for representation on the forum will then be considered, but I can state at this stage that it is my intention that representation will be broad-based and will encompass a range of interests in the issue of the welfare of farm animals.
