Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - Retired Nurses' Pensions.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

189 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the cost, on a year 2000 value basis, to grant adjustment in pensions to retired nurses. [12894/01]

With the introduction of the senior staff nurse grade, persons appointed to that grade will have their pensions calculated at that rate and adjusted in line with normal practice.

This does not apply to nurses who retired before the introduction of the grade on 5 November 1999. We do not have precise costs for adjustments to pensions as the audited accounts for the year 2000 will not be available until 30 June 2001.

Officials of my Department are meeting with representatives of the retired nurses association tomorrow to discuss a number of matters of concern to the association.
