Question:

106 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the cost of the foot and mouth crisis to his Department to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14060/01]

To date, payments made by my Department in the context of foot and mouth disease controls amount to £12.9 million excluding costs of salaries, overtime, subsistence, etc. Of that amount some £6.2 million represents compensation paid to farmers in respect to animals slaughtered throughout the country.
