Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Jim Higgins

Question:

62 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if, in view of the refusal by the European Commission to accede to the request that the average increase of 30% in the rates of annual forest premium for those planting from 1 October 1999 should also be applied to those who planted before October 1999, he will indicate the cost to the Exchequer of bearing the full cost of the increases. The annual cost to the Exchequer is currently estimated at £3.4 million.
