Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Crime Levels.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

421 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the figures for reported crime in different categories in the Dublin West division overall, and for the Dublin 15 area (details supplied) from 1996 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23144/01]

Recorded crime statistics for the Garda division of Dublin West for the years 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 are provided in the Garda Síochána's annual reports for those years, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. Due to the replacement of the Garda Síochána's crime reporting computer system at the end of September 1999, statistics by Garda division for that year relate to the nine month period January to September, although the full year figure for the entire country is provided. Garda statistics for the year 2000 are currently being compiled and will be available in due course. Statistics in respect of the current year will be included in the Garda Síochána's Annual Report 2001, which will be published during 2002. As crime statistics are prepared by the Garda Síochána according to its organisational structure and associated divisional boundaries, it is not possible to break down these statistics according to postal district or location.
