Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teachers' Pay.

Paul Bradford

Question:

149 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will reverse his decision not to pay substitute and temporary teachers for the national day of mourning. [22953/01]

At no time whatsoever did I make any decision to withhold payment for part-time teachers scheduled to work on the national day of mourning.

As soon as the issue was brought to my attention I gave a direction that, in view of the special circumstances and in keeping with the spirit of the day, part-time teachers who were scheduled to work on the national day of mourning should be paid in full.

School authorities were formally notified in writing of my decision.
