Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

271 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if he will amend the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers Regulations, 1994, to include persons who have only one hand or the use of one hand; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23772/01]

The disabled drivers and disabled passengers (Tax Concessions) scheme is currently under review by an interdepartmental chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. The group is examining all aspects of the scheme including the medical criteria. I understand the work is nearing completion and I expect to receive the report before the end of the year. No amendments have been made to the 1994 regulations governing the scheme and none will be considered until such time as the content of this report is given due consideration.
