Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

John McGuinness

Question:

334 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons proper care and treatment are not being provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; the reason the patient has been informed he must wait for six months before being treated at Dún Laoghaire rehabilitation centre; if a bed or place can be provided immediately; the further reasons this patient was discharged without proper home support; the reason the basic aid of a wheelchair was denied; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24288/01]

The provision of rehabilitation services in the National Rehabilitation Hospital and community support services in the Kilkenny region are matters for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the South-Eastern Health Board respectively. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officers of the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the South-Eastern Health Board, with a request that they examine the issues appropriate to them and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency. I would also like to point out that the scheduling for admission to the hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and is determined solely on the basis of medical priority.
