569 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding an application by a school (details supplied) in County Meath for funding to carry out renovations; if he will arrange to meet with a deputation from the board of management to discuss this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24202/01]

My Department has received an application for grant aid towards the cost of a building project at the school in question. The Deputy will appreciate that there has been a massive and unprecedented increase in the funds allocated by this Government to the schools building programme at all levels. Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of projects, including the school referred to by the Deputy, will be taken in the light of the allocations to be made for school building purposes in the forthcoming Estimates.

574 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Education and Science when he introduced a capital charge on each community for the provision of primary schools; if he will ensure a school (details supplied) in County Limerick will not be subject to such a charge; and if he will confirm that no such charge will apply. The Gaelscoil in question, which had full recognition prior to January 1999, may receive up to 100% grant aid for this proposed building project.

The Deputy will appreciate that there has been a massive and unprecedented increase in the funds allocated by this Government to the schools building programme at all levels. Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of projects, including Creggduff national school will be taken in the light of the allocations to be made for school building purposes in the forthcoming Estimates.

Austin Deasy

575 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education and Science when it is expected that construction of the proposed new community school for Lismore, County Waterford will commence; and the anticipated date of completion. [24356/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the building unit of my Department recently instructed the consultant architect to accept the tender of McInerney Construction Limited for this project. The contractor is making arrange ments for the necessary bond to be in place and to finalise other pre requisites for the completion of the contract. It is expected that construction will commence as soon as possible thereafter, and will take some 12 to 15 months.

577 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the situation regarding a new school (details supplied) in County Clare. [24358/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the issue of whether or not to provide an extension or a new school on a greenfield site is being re-examined by officials in my Department's building unit in the light of additional information made available to me recently.
