Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Representation.

Bernard Allen

Question:

179 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will establish a resident embassy in Taiwan in view of the need to promote relations between Ireland and Taiwan. [23960/01]

The Irish Government recognises the People's Republic of China – PRC – one-China policy, which regards Taiwan as part of China, and the Government of the PRC as the only legal Government of China. In line with this position, the Government does not have diplomatic relations with Taiwan and does not intend to establish a resident embassy in Taiwan.
