Vol. 547 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Measures.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

221 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if protection is available for teachers in second level schools under the Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2001 against possible intimidation and harassment in both publicly owned and privately run schools; the role his Department plays in the protection of teachers in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3766/02]

It is a matter for each school authority, as employer, to ensure the health and safety of its employees in accordance with its statutory obligations. I understand that the representative body of managerial authorities of secondary schools has issued guidelines to its members in respect of health and safety issues.
