My Department allocates resource posts, special needs assistant posts and concessionary teaching hours to second level schools and vocational education committees to cater for the needs of special needs pupils. Applications for such support are made to my Department by the relevant school authorities. Each case is considered on its merits and determined on the advice of the psychological service.

An application for additional resources to cater for the needs of the pupil referred to by the Deputy was received from the school authorities. The psychological service has reported that the pupil concerned was no longer attending the school in question and that an alternative placement arrangement had been made for him.
