Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Dan Neville

Question:

401 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Education and Science when a secondary school (details supplied) in County Limerick will be upgraded. [6451/02]

The school referred to by the Deputy is one of three second level schools serving the needs of the area in question, two of which are voluntary secondary schools and the other a vocational school under the aegis of the vocational education committee. The planning section of my Department is currently examining an application for grant aid to refurbish and upgrade facilities at the school in question. As part of this process, all relevant factors, including enrolment and demographic trends in the area, are being taken into consideration. Examination of the application is nearing completion and a decision on the matter will be notified to the school authorities as soon as possible.

The school has also applied for funding to carry out remedial works which it considers essential on health and safety grounds. This application will be examined on receipt of a consultant's report in the matter.
