Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

744 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that the primary school (details supplied) in Dublin 13 retains its tenth assistant teaching post for the coming academic year. [8640/02]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with an agreement on staffing entered into between the Government and the education partners.

The enrolment of this school on 30 September 2001 warrants a staffing of a principal and nine mainstream class teachers for the 2002-03 school year. The school also has the services of a full time learning support teacher.

I have also asked my Department to establish if there are any special circumstances in this case.
