Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

310 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the withdrawal of the services of the resource teacher at Mooncoin national school via Waterford, County Kilkenny; and if this decision will be reviewed. [6997/03]

An application was received from Mooncoin national school, County Kilkenny, in November 2002 for resource teaching support for four children in the school. My Department wrote to the school in December 2002 confirming the allocation of the supports sought, subject to a review by the national educational psychological service, NEPS.

Following the NEPS review, the school was advised in February 2003 that the supports sought could not be sanctioned. The findings of NEPS were that the application did not comply with the requirements of Department Circular 08/2002 for resource teaching support. It is not my intention to review the matter further at this time.
