Vol. 564 No. 2

Written Answers - Proposed Legislation.

Finian McGrath

Question:

215 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if all people over 65 will not be excluded from any new provisions in the proposed Disability Bill, particularly those with a physical and intellectual disability. [9238/03]

I assure the Deputy that it is my intention, in accordance with the commitment given in An Agreed Programme for Government, to bring forward a Disability Bill at the earliest possible date. Following the conclusion of the formal consultation process in February 2003, and the Government decision to refer the outcome of the process to the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Social Inclusion, the preparation of a revised scheme of a Disability Bill is being progressed as a matter of priority. Pending the completion of this process, it would be inappropriate to comment on the likely content of the Bill.
