Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Phil Hogan

Question:

172 Mr. Hogan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if, in relation to her Department's announcement of work permit restrictions, applications for permits and applications for renewals that are already in the system and were still outstanding by 9 April 2003 will be exempt from the restrictions; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12377/03]

Any vacancies that were advertised with FÁS in relation to a possible work permit application prior to 9 April 2003 and later submitted to the Department will be considered in the normal way. Applications for renewals of existing work permits, where the employee is being retained by his or her employer, will not be affected by the new restrictions, subject to compliance by the employer with employment rights legislation.
