Vol. 129 No. 2

Payment of Wages Bill, 1991: Committee and Final Stages.

Sections 1 to 14, inclusive, agreed to.
Schedule agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass".

I wish to thank the Minister. The fact that the Bill has passed all Stages without amendment is ample evidence of his patience and of the tremendous background work he has done in bringing this legislation before the House. I sincerely thank him on behalf of the Seanad.

I wish to thank Senators for their contributions. In one comprehensive measure this Bill will change and update a law going back 248 years. I assure the Senators I have noted the points they raised and we will endeavour to make sure their wishes are complied with. The legislation will stand the test of time. I am not sure it will survive as long as the Acts we have amended but it will do its job. I want to thank the House for its cooperation.

Question put and agreed to.
Sitting suspended at 12.30 p.m. and resumed at 2 p.m.
