Vol. 297 No. 3

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator Aidan Davitt - The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to make a statement on the total annual expenditure in the operation of direct provision and related services and supports; and the total expenditure to date in the provision of accommodation, supports and services for refugees following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Senator Mark Wall - The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to make a statement on the number of assessments of need that are outstanding or overdue in the community healthcare organisation, CHO, 7 area.

Senator Tim Lombard - The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to provide an update on the delays in the approval of applications under the targeted agricultural modernisation scheme, TAMS; and to outline the system to be implemented to ensure that time-sensitive applications will be prioritised and processed.

Senator Mary Seery Kearney - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on the remediation scheme for apartment and duplex properties affected by defects.

Senator Paul Daly - The need for the Minister of State with special responsibility for heritage and electoral reform to introduce organised measures to curtail the ever-increasing population of wild mink.

Senator Shane Cassells - The need for the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to make a statement on the provision of funding to the Football Association of Ireland, FAI.

Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs to make a statement on the ongoing imprisonment of Jimmy Lai and the repression of journalists, students and pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong.

Senator Micheál Carrigy - The need for the Minister of State with responsibility for heritage and electoral reform to make a statement on the display of the burial stones from Inchcleraun in Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre, County Longford.

Senator Mary Fitzpatrick - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide an update on the proposal for 120 new social and affordable homes on Bannow Road, Cabra, Dublin 7.

Senator Robbie Gallagher - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide an update on the status of the review into the retirement gratuity payment for councillors.

Senator Erin McGreehan - The need for the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to award honorary degrees to those who completed teacher training certificates pre-1974.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected Senators Davitt, Wall, Lombard, Seery Kearney, Paul Daly and Cassells and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matters raised by Senators Carrigy and Fitzpatrick on the grounds that the relevant Minister has no official responsibility in the matters raised. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters that they wish to raise.
