Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 14 Dec 2023

Vol. 298 No. 2

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator Barry Ward - The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs to make a statement on Irish Aid activities over the last three years, and the impact the war in Gaza has had on its activities.

Senator Fintan Warfield - The need for the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to outline when construction will commence on the west wing of the National Library of Ireland.

Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the proposed primary care centre at Gorey and the HSE clinic building at Camolin, County Wexford.

Senator Pauline O'Reilly - The need for the Minister for Education to provide an update on the establishment of a citizens' assembly on the future of education.

Senator Lisa Chambers - The need for the Minister for Transport to provide an update on the western rail corridor and the estimated timelines for the project.

Senator Garret Ahearn - The need for the Minister for Justice to make a statement on current and planned legislation to protect local shops and convenience stores which are subjected to retail crime and theft.

Senator Tim Lombard - The need for the Minister for agriculture to make a statement on the timelines around payment to all applicants to the agri-climate rural environment scheme, to ensure applicants are paid on time.

Senator Micheál Carrigy - The need for the Minister for agriculture to make a statement on the timelines around payment to all applicants to the agri-climate rural environment scheme, to ensure applicants are paid on time.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected Senators Ward, Warfield, Malcolm Byrne and Pauline O'Reilly and they will be taken now.

I regret that I had to rule out of order the matters raised by Senators Lombard and Carrigy on the ground that it is a repeat of a Commencement matter raised on 12 December 2023.

The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
