Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator John McGahon - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to extend the waiver on development levies for rural one-off housing.

Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the total number of vacant or derelict properties nationwide in the ownership or possession of the Department of Health or the HSE, and his strategy to address this issue.

Senator Martin Conway - The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the establishment of a new primary health care centre in Ennistymon, County Clare.

Senator Marie Sherlock - The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to amend the Maternity Protection Act 2004 to ensure that women experiencing cancer or other acute serious illnesses following the birth of a baby can postpone their maternity leave for a specific period while undergoing treatment.

Senator Mary Fitzpatrick - The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to allocate capital funding for the development of an acquired brain injury rehabilitation day centre for Teach An Saol.

Senator Emer Currie - The need for the Minister for Education to provide an update on building works at St. Francis Xavier Senior National School, Roselawn, Dublin 15.

Senator Fiona O'Loughlin - The need for the Minister for Justice to outline her Department's long-term policy to ensure effective policing and security for the people of Rathangan, County Kildare.

Senator Tim Lombard - The need for the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to allocate funding to complete the new track facility at Bandon Athletic Club. Of the matters raised by the Senators that are suitable for discussion, I have selected those raised by Senators McGahon, Byrne, Conway, Sherlock, Fitzpatrick and Currie and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator O'Loughlin on the ground that the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter. Senator Lombard may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
