Jobs Committee to resume hearings on unemployment and youth unemployment

26 Jun 2012, 15:17

The Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will resume its hearings on unemployment and youth unemployment tomorrow, Wednesday, 27th June when it meets with representatives from TASC.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “As part of the on-going consideration of unemployment, particularly youth unemployment, the Committee will be meeting with a number of interest groups and organisations working closely with unemployed people and involved in job creation initiatives as well as employers and business people. Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to get the perspective of representatives from TASC, the independent think-tank that seeks to address economic inequality, on job creation and dealing with the problem of unemployment.

Our meeting tomorrow will feed into the study the committee is carrying out on unemployment, particularly youth unemployment which we hope will put forward clear, innovative and actionable steps that will make a difference. It is important that we as a committee continue to play our part in helping to achieve progress and finding new potential solutions which integrate social protection, education and job creation measures targeted to achieve the best results of getting people back to work.”

This meeting will begin at 9.30am in Committee Room 3 on Wednesday, 27th June.
