Committee on Housing & Homelessness to hear from County & City Management Association

The Oireachtas Committee on Housing and Homelessness will meet tomorrow Tuesday, 26th April 2016 at 10:30am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.

The schedule for the meeting is as follows:

•    Session A: 10.30 a.m.

Interim Report of the Committee

•    Session B: 3.00 p.m.      

Housing and Homelessness [Representatives from the County and City Management Association]

The CCMA is the “representative voice” of the local government management network. Its members are Chief Executives of the County and City Councils and the Assistant Chief Executives of Dublin City Council .  

Chairman of the Committee, John Curran, says, “We are facing one of the biggest housing and homelessness crises in the history of the State. The establishment of this Committee represents an important step in resolving the challenges facing those affected by the crisis.”

“At our inaugural meeting last week, the Committee agreed to submit an interim report to the Dáil on by the 28th of April, containing its proposed work schedule. Tomorrow morning, we will finalise this work schedule and the key issues or strands of the housing and homelessness problem, which we believe it is necessary to address in the course of our work.”

“The State must supply the homes that are desperately needed by families all over Ireland and our Committee will do all it can to assist in this process. In the second part of tomorrow’s meeting, we will hear from representatives of the County and City Management Association (CCMA), who will brief us as to what they believe must be done in order to provide access to appropriate, affordable housing.”
