Jobs Committee to resume discussion on impact of ‘Brexit’ on jobs

24 Oct 2016, 15:14

The Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 25th October 2016 at 5pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House.

24th October 2016

The Committee will resume its discussion of the likely economic impact of Brexit, with particular emphasis on jobs and enterprise and the steps being taken to mitigate these risks.

The following bodies will appear before the Committee:

Session A: Representatives from the Centre for Cross Border Studies; the Institute of International and European Affairs; and the Economic and Social Research Institute

Session B: Representatives from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions; the Nevin Economic Research Institute; and the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed

Committee Chair, Mary Butler TD, said, “Over the coming weeks, as our Committee examines the potential impact Brexit could have on jobs, we will hear from a number of different stakeholder groups. Tomorrow’s meeting will see us continue our examination of how we can mitigate any negative effect the UK departure from the EU might have. As a Committee, we are mindful of the decrease in the value of sterling and how that might impact Irish exports to the UK market.”

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
