Jobs Committee to meet counterparts from Northern Ireland Assembly at private meeting on Brexit

7 Dec 2016, 13:34

The Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will host an informal meeting with members of the Economy Committee from the Northern Ireland Assembly tomorrow.

7th December 2016

The following members of the Economy Committee will attend: Conor Murphy (Chair); Steve Aiken (Deputy Chair); Mervyn Storey and Sinéad Bradley.

Chairperson of the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Butler TD, said, “Earlier this week, we met with Mr. Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, Northern Ireland Minister for Finance and Mr. Chris Hazzard, Northern Ireland Minister for Infrastructure. The Ministers impressed upon us the importance of continued cooperation and dialogue between the Republic and Northern Ireland as we deal with Brexit. They also made clear that some of the major issues of concern to Northern Ireland include economic and political uncertainty; access to the single market and free movement of labour.”

“The previous Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation met twice yearly with the Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment and both of our committees are keen to continue these biannual meetings.”

“As such, tomorrow’s meeting will be this Committee’s first with the Economy Committee and it is one we greatly look forward to. Some of the issues likely to be discussed tomorrow include, FDI, economic development and corporation tax. Securing the interests of the all-island economy is one of our committee’s biggest priorities as we look to nurturing the relationship between us during the Brexit process.”

Please note this is an informal meeting, held in private session, and will not be open for attendance.
