30 May 2017, 12:25

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The Committee will consider the following petitions:

•    Petition No P00024/16 – Criteria in order to qualify for a primary medical certificate.
•    Petition No P00036/16 – A regulator to be set up for the gambling/gaming industry.
•    Petition No P00001/17 – Responsible service of alcohol.
•    Petition No P00008/17 – In relation to overgrown Leylandii trees in neighbouring garden.
•    Petition No P00015/17 – Widening eligibility requirements for Irish Citizenship by descent.
•    Petition No P00017/17 – Introduce refundable deposits on bottles and cans in Ireland.
•    Petition No P00019/17 – The Lough Foyle Ferry Service should be maintained by the Irish and British Governments.

Committee Chairperson, Seán Sherlock TD, said today: “The petitions up for consideration tomorrow cover a wide variety of issues. We will discuss a petition that questions the criteria for qualification for a primary medical certificate and is of the view that the criteria is outdated and does not allow upper limb amputees to qualify for the scheme. We will also look at the possibility of establishing an impartial government body to regulate the gambling/gaming industry in Ireland.”

All petitions will be examined for their compliance with Standing Orders and decisions will be given in public session.
