Children & Youth Affairs Committee to resume analysis of cyber security for young people 24 October 2017

24 Oct 2017, 09:34

The Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs will meet tomorrow at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The Committee will resume its discussion on the issue of cyber security for children and young adults:

Session A: Representatives from An Garda Síochana;

Session B: Representatives from the Office of Internet Security; and CyberSafe Ireland.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair, Alan Farrell TD, said, “Children today spend a lot more time online than previous generations. It is incumbent upon us to ensure their safety by putting appropriate safeguards in place to protect them from predators and online bullying. Tomorrow we will engage directly with the Gardaí on the work carried out in this area by their Protective Services Units and how their Garda National Protective Services Bureau (GNPSB) deals with cyber security cases. CyberSafe Ireland and the Office of Internet Security will brief us on their respective awareness raising and information activities and discuss how the agencies working in this area interact with each other.”
