Irish Language Committee to discuss draft scheme of Official Languages Bill

The Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands will carry out pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme and Draft Heads of the Official Languages Bill at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 7 November 2017. 

Officials from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will attend the meeting.

Committee Chair Catherine Connolly: “In June, the Government published the Draft Heads of Bill to amend the Official Languages Act 2003. Tomorrow, the Committee will have an opportunity to consider the Draft Heads and provide its input into drafting a strong and effective language bill to promote and protect the Irish language and benefit Gaeltacht communities.”

This meeting will take place at 5pm, tomorrow, Tuesday, 7 November 2017 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.
