Children & Youth Affairs Committee to discuss Oberstown inspection report

7 Nov 2017, 15:10

The Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs will meet tomorrow at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

Representatives from Oberstown Children Detention Campus will appear before the Committee to discuss the August 2017 HIQA Inspection Report on the facility.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair, Alan Farrell TD said, “While the report in question documents the progress that has been made at Oberstown to date, it also highlighted a number of serious concerns including children being held in isolation and risks in relation to the secure storage of medication. Tomorrow we will engage directly with Oberstown to discuss how the report’s findings have influenced the running of the facility. Oberstown provided an action plan response to address the non-compliances identified on inspection and the Committee looks forward to discussing this with representatives tomorrow.”
