Irish Language Committee to discuss challenges facing childcare centres in Gaeltacht areas

5 Feb 2018, 12:37

The Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands will meet with representatives of  Crann Taca/Comharchumann Shailearna Teo to consider the challenges facing childcare centres that operate through the medium of Irish and are located in Gaeltacht areas.

Committee Chair Catherine Connolly said: “The Committee recognises and lauds the commitment parents make when sending their children to all-Irish childcare centres both inside and outside the Gaeltacht and it also recognises the extra difficulties and expenses they face. The Committee wants to ensure that these extra difficulties are overcome and these extra expenses are mitigated insofar as possible. Tomorrow, we will examine the issue in greater detail.”

This meeting will take place at 5pm, tomorrow, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
