Tomorrow, Tuesday at 1.30pm, the Committee on Budgetary Oversight will commence the first of two sessions, with the latest Fiscal Assessment Report to be discussed.

Representatives from the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council are due before the committee at 1.30pm to discuss the Fiscal Assessment Report.

Minister Donohoe TD will assist the committee in its consideration of the Review of Local Property Tax: the report of the Inter-Departmental Group - March 2019.

“The very latest Irish Fiscal Advisory Council report merits detailed consideration, as the issues raised throughout have the potential to impact upon the lives of all of us” said Committee Chairman Colm Brophy TD.

The mandate of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council is to endorse, as it considers appropriate, the macroeconomic forecasts prepared by the Department of Finance on which the Budget and Stability Programme Update are based; assess the official forecasts produced by the Department of Finance; assess government compliance with the Budgetary Rule; assess whether the fiscal stance of the Government in each Budget and Stability Programme Update (SPU) is conducive to prudent economic and budgetary management.

Mr. Brophy added: “This report was just finalised on Friday last, June 7, so we welcome the opportunity to have such an early opportunity to engage with the Council   in relation to issues such as  Sustainable Growth, Corporation Tax Receipts, Tax Forecasts and Capital Projects. Furthermore, as Brexit nears, we welcome the opportunity to explore the Fiscal Impacts of Hard Brexit Scenarios set out in the report.”

“Separately, the Committee looks forward to meeting with the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform to carry out scrutiny of the Review of Local Property Tax.”
