Joint Committee on International Surrogacy to discuss issues facing couples entering international surrogacy and regularising the position of existing children born through international surrogacy

The Joint Committee on International Surrogacy chaired by Deputy Jennifer Whitmore will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 5 May, in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House at 9:30am.

The meeting will be in 2 sessions with the first focussing on the particular issues faced by same sex couples, both male and female, entering international surrogacy arrangements and achieving parental recognition with submissions from Ms Fiona Duffy, Solicitor, representatives from Independent Living Movement Ireland (ILMI) and representatives from LGBT Ireland. 

The second session will look at protecting the rights and regularising the position of existing children born through international surrogacy and the role of legal advice and arrangements for verification of documents issued in other countries with submissions from representatives from Equality for Children, The National Infertility Support and Information Group and Irish Families Through Surrogacy.
