Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Meters.

144.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will introduce legislation to amend section 107 of the Electricity Supply Act, 1927, to enable officers of his Department to carry out spot checks on ESB meters to ensure their accuracy.

I am informed by the ESB that meters used by the board are of a very high standard and great care is taken to ensure their accuracy. Each meter is subjected to a rigorous test before being put into use. Meters recording heavy loads are tested at regular intervals and other meters are tested if a consumer considers that his meter is not recording accurately. In the circumstances I do not propose to introduce legislation to amend section 107 of the Electricity Supply Act, 1927, as requested.
