Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Loan.

145.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the main purpose for which CIE secured a 20-year loan of £4 million from the European Investment Bank.

The loan of £4 million which CIE have obtained from the European Investment Bank is related to the board's railway investment programme and will contribute in particular to improvements in passenger train services, wagon load freight services, terminal facilities and the signalling system.

I understand from recent advertisements that the super trains have proved very successful. May I take it from the reply that these trains will be available on routes other than those to the south?

I have no specific information to that effect but it would be my assumption and hope that that would be the case.

Questions Nos. 146, 147 and 148 postponed.
