Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Westport House, County Mayo.

Enda Kenny

Question:

177 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if financial assistance can be made available in respect of an interpretative centre/ document room at Westport House, Westport, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In reply to a similar question from the Deputy on 10 March 1994, I stated that the National Heritage Council had not received an application for grant aid in respect of the provision of a document room and interpretative centre at Westport House, County Mayo.

The reply was based on information supplied to me by the Secretariat of the National Heritage Council. I now understand that an application made to the Council in 1990 was, in fact, considered by them but they were not in a position to offer grant assistance. The case was resubmitted to the Council in July 1993 but the applicant was informed in September last that the Council did not propose to recommend a grant.

I would like to express my regret to the Deputy for the inaccurate information which was inadvertently conveyed to him on 10 March last.
