Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cardiac Surgery.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

180 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Galway will obtain cardio by-pass surgery which was deemed necessary 16 months ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This patient was placed on the waiting list for cardiac surgery at the Mater Hospital, Dublin in October 1993. As the Deputy will appreciate, the scheduling of admissions to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and urgent cases are always given priority. Should the patient concerned feel that his condition has deteriorated he should return to his general practitioner who is in the best position to emphasise the urgency of his case to the consultant directly.
