Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts & the Gaeltacht Committee to meet chair designates and review estimates

27 Sep 2016, 10:47

The Committee on Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts and the Gaeltacht will meet the chairs designate of a number of State organisations in the arts arena at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday 28th September 2016.

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Peadar Tóibín said: “Those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are now required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Tomorrow, we will have our first opportunity to meet with chairs designate of a number of State organisations in the arts arena, including Annie Doona, Chair designate, Irish Film Board; Maura Mc Grath, Chair designate, National Concert Hall; and Catherine Heaney, Chair designate, National Museum of Ireland. This meeting provides members with a chance to engage with the chairs designate about what they see are the priorities and challenges for their organisations in the years ahead. The Committee does not have a blocking role in these appointments and following the discussion tomorrow, decisions will be taken by the Minister or the Government, as appropriate, to confirm their appointments as chairperson.”

Following this meeting, the Committee will consider the Mid-Year Review of the 2016 Estimates for Public Services - Vote 33 (Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs) with the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affair Heather Humphreys.

This meeting will start at 2.15pm, tomorrow, Wednesday, 28th September 2016 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
