Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork National Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state if he has approved of plans and specifications for (a) the new national schools to be built in Clondulane, Glanworth, Curraghalla, and (b) the new room to the Presentation Convent, Mitchelstown.

In the case of the proposed new Clondulane National School certain matters as regards the site and the type of sanitation to be provided have yet to be settled before a grant from State funds can be sanctioned towards the cost of the erection of the new school. The Department is endeavouring to have the necessary arrangements in these matters completed as speedily as possible. When the grant has been sanctioned it will be a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works to have the working drawings and specification prepared, and to take such other steps as may be required in order to enable building operations to be commenced.

A tender was accepted by the Commissioners of Public Works, in May, 1951, for the erection of the new Curraghalla national school and I understand that work on the new building is proceeding satisfactorily.

I am not clear whether the Deputy, in mentioning Glanworth in his question, intended to refer to the schools there. I am advised that the present Glanworth boys' and girls' national schools require to be replaced by a new school and the Department is now taking up the matter with the manager.

As regards Mitchelstown convent national school the Department is in communication with the manager regarding the sketch plans for the enlargement and improvement of the school building.
