Vol. 227 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax.

168.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount collected under Schedule E Income Tax for the years 1965-66 and 1966-67 in the terms of the reply to Question No. 105 of 8th March, 1966; and, if any such information is not now available, the date on which it will be available.

169.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give particulars of Schedule E Income Tax collection for 1965-66 and 1966-67 in the form of the reply to Question No. 106 of 8th March, 1966.

170.

asked the Minister for Finance the Budget estimate of the increase in the amount of income tax to be collected under each income tax Schedule as between 1965-66 and 1966-67 and in relation to Schedule E giving the amount referable to PAYE.

171.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the estimated amount of Schedule E income tax collection for 1966-67 in the form of the reply to Question No. 131 of 8th March, 1966.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 168, 169, 170 and 171 together.

As explained in my reply to the corresponding questions tabled by the Deputy on 8th March, 1966, figures are not available for 1963-64 or subsequent years, of the net produce of tax under each Schedule. However, for reasons also explained in that reply, it is possible to make a reasonably reliable estimate of the net receipt of Schedule E tax.

The amount of income tax collected under Schedule E in 1965-66 was £26.9 million approximately of which £21.5 million was referable to Pay As You Earn. The amount of Schedule E tax to be collected in 1966-67 will not be known until some time after the 31st March, 1967.

If the Deputy puts down a further Question after the Easter recess, I shall be glad to give him particulars of the actual out-turn of the Schedule E collection for 1966-67.
