Good Friday Committee to discuss prison issues in Northern Ireland

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 3rd November 2016 at 2pm in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

The Committee will be discussing prison issues in Northern Ireland, in relation to Maghaberry Prison.

The following witnesses will brief the Committee:

• Mr. Conal McFeeley and Mr. Peter Bunting (Members of the Independent Assessment Team) and;

• Mr. John Finucane of Finucane Toner Ltd.

Committee Chairperson, Kathleen Funchion TD said, “Prisoners’ issues are an important aspect of the Good Friday Agreement. Over the years, concerns have been raised about conditions in Maghaberry Prison in Co. Antrim.\"

\"Work is ongoing to progress positive outcomes for prisoners as well as ensuring the safety of staff. Tomorrow our Committee will have the opportunity to discuss the various issues facing both prisoners and staff in Maghaberry Prison.”
