Vol. 66 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duties on Eggs and Butter

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that butter and egg exporters have received notice that in future British import duties on eggs and butter will be calculated and levied on 100 per cent. of consignments values after March 3rd, 1937, instead of 95 per cent. of the value as heretofore, and whether this will increase the amount of the gross duty by about £50,000, and whether he has made any representations to the British Government in regard to this matter.

I am advised that the Commissioners of Customs and Excise in Great Britain have decided to withdraw the allowance of 5 per cent. in respect of post-importation charges and selling commission, which was formerly deducted from the estimated average price of butter and eggs imported from Saorstát Eireann before duty was assessed. The matter is at present the subject of examination.
