Vol. 114 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Coast Erosion.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that coast erosion has been rather serious at Malahide, Donabate, Portrane, Rush, Loughshinny, Skerries and Balbriggan; and, if so, whether he will state what steps he intends to take to prevent this consistent erosion.

I am not aware of the matters mentioned in the Deputy's question, but in any event there is at present no statutory authority to enable the State to embark on coastal protection works.

Is it the intention of the Government to allow this coast erosion to carry on unchecked, or will the Government not face up to it some time that this is very necessary, if we are not to allow the country to be washed away by the sea—which has, of course, got very rough in the last 12 months?
